The Lytro camera to be available in-store at B&H and Best Buy in the U.S. as well as through retailers in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and UK
Mountain View, Calif. – July 16, 2013 – Lytro, Inc., creator of the world’s first consumer light field camera, has announced that it has expanded its U.S. distribution, with in-store availability at 44 Best Buy stores across the country, as well as at B&H Photo Video super store, in New York City. Lytro is also currently available through international retail partners in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland and coming soon to the U.K., through partnerships with Consutecc Innovative Technologies in Germany and Softline UK.
This marks Lytro’s second international retail expansion, following the camera’s debut in Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, and Canada in October 2012. Lytro continues to see increasing demand for light field technology in the U.S. and around the world. The company also recently announced the Lytro Mobile app, which lets people share and experience light field pictures on-the-go from their camera via iOS devices.
“As we continue to expand internationally, this is an opportunity to work with partners who share our vision for light field technology and support it across new markets. We look forward to seeing the kinds of living pictures our new European customers will create,” said Jason Rosenthal, CEO of Lytro.
“Germany is always hungry for photography innovations and we know many photographers here are eager to become Lytro customers. We are excited to partner with Lytro to bring light field technology to Europe’s Germany-speaking region,” said Stephan Madl, co-founder of Consutecc Innovative Technologies.
The Lytro camera will be available for retail:
Lytro is transforming the camera into a powerful computational photography platform, forever changing the way everyone takes and experiences pictures. The first Lytro Light Field Camera offers photographic capabilities never before possible, such as focusing a picture after it’s taken, changing the perspective in the picture and creates interactive living pictures that can be endlessly refocused and enjoyed by friends and family online. Founder and Executive Chairman Ren Ng, whose Ph.D. research on light field photography won Stanford University’s prize for best thesis in computer science in 2006 as well as the internationally recognized ACM Dissertation award, founded the company in 2006.
